Classic 1 & 2 --

Turntable Features:

Classic 3 --

VPI Classic 3 Turntable Features:

  • A large knurled VTA tower with a smooth precise feel makes it easy to set VTA during play.
  • A secondary mounting with underbase has been placed between the arm rest and the arm lift to greatly improve the arm's rigidity literally making these the only arms that can do VTA adjustments while listening and then be locked as rigid as a solid mounted arm.
  • JMW-Classic 3 damped stainless steel tonearm.
  • New investment machined aluminum high inertia platter with precision inverted bearing.
  • Speed stability on par with a master tape: Due to the rigid mounting of motor - platter - tonearm there isn't any random motion to cause speed instabilities.
  • Noise rejection that lets the Classic Turntable sit near four 15" subwoofers and having virtually no feedback
  • Lack of random motion between the motor, platter, and tonearm giving the ultimate in low level resolution. Not only does this rigidity improve speed stability, it also allows the retrievel of low level information with the world's great turntables and pushing against master tapes.
  • Absolutely solid, non-resonating laminated one-piece chassis: This is not a wooden frame; it is a solid laminated 2.5" thick MDF block with 11 gauge steel attached to the top with silicone and long bolts through all the layers. The chassis weighs 30 pounds and is totally non-resonant.

Scout 1.1 & 2 --

The only difference between the 1.1 and 2 is the PLATTER


Scout 1.1 platter = 1 3/8” thick aluminum and oil bath bearing

Scout 2 platter = 2” thick aluminum and inverted bearing


The Table:

  • 1/8" thick MDF bonded to a 12 gauge steel plate.
  • Machined 1 3/8" thick 6061 aluminum platter.
  • Platter rotates on an oil bath bearing and fitted to shaft with a #2 Jacob’s Taper for a concentric rigidly mounted coupling.
  • The bearing has a PEEK thrust disc and machined graphite impregnated brass bushings using a Thompson Engineering 60 Rockwell case hardened shaft.
  • 600 RPM AC synchronous motor is contained in a separate steel housing and drives the platter with smooth, quiet operation.
  • Includes a platter and record damping mat.  


The Arm:

  • New 9” JMW Scout Tonearm.
  • No friction unipivot bearing mounted on a solid stainless steel shaft.
  • VTA adjustable arm mount.
  • Removable arm-wands allows you to change cartridges in less than 30 seconds.

Classic Direct --

The VPI Classic Direct Drive Turntable is the newest turntable in the VPI Classic line. Our design takes advantage of 21st Century motor technology for accurate speed control utilizing a servo motor controller coupled with an active feedback loop to control the motion of the platter. It is a true measure of design and engineering excellence. The Classic Direct Drive Turntable is precision manufactured and painstakingly handmade entirely in the USA. It is simple to set up and is free from any shift in factory settings over time. Some of the VPI Classic Direct Drive Turntable key features are:


  • Direct drive with no mechanical contact in the horizontal plane. The lowest noise drive and bearing design architecture possible.
  • A precision inverted bearing and PEEK bearing surface for minimum friction.
  • Servo controlled with an active feedback loop that measures and controls the speed of the platter directly to yield the most consistent and accurate playback possible.
  • A high mass billet aluminum platter weighing 18 lbs (8 Kg).
  • Speed accuracy of .01% or 5 Sigma  from 33.3 RPM and from 45.0 RPM.
  • A proprietary non-cogging drive system that uses the platter as the rotor and a printed circuit board stator.
  • A ½" thick machined aluminum plate bonded to 2" of MDF creating a plinth which is so massive and well damped it virtually eliminates resonance.
